DESCRIPTION OF THE FACADE OF ST PETER OF MONTMARTRE(Sylviane)
The façade that we see now was reconstructed at the end of the 17th century. The style is very classical and simple. There are no decorative elements, with the exception of the doors.
The façade is divided into 3 parts, each with a door, separated by a buttress. 3 doors mean 3 naves. The central part is wider and higher than the lateral parts. There is a doorway in the centre and a window rectangular in shape on the first level. The façade culminate in a pediment in the centre of which is situated an oculus. The lateral parts have only 1 level, with a doorway topped by a window. The upper wall is triangular in shape cut.
DESCRIPTION OF THE DOORS OF ST PETER OF MONTMARTRE
The three doors in bronze are a masterpiece of the Italian sculptor Tommaso Gismondi who gave them to the church. The doors were melted at Rome, and were blessed by John Paul II on March 26th 1980. They were installed in June 1980. Each door is dedicated to the historical titular of the church: Saint Denis, Saint Peter and the Lady.
